Elements and Principles of Art

This activity allows students to explore elements and principles of art within their local environment and architecture. Looking specifically at the 7 elements of art: line, shape, form, value, space, colour and texture. The principles of design component looks at how artists use elements in artwork. Looking specifically at balance, contrast, repetition, emphasis and unity.
 

 This Activity in Action

  1. Divide class into groups
  2. Give Students elements of art guide
  3. Have students explore the environment 
  4. Have students draw/take picture of items 
  5. Have students label these using the elements guide.
 

Chopped Art 


The Key to Christmas: Rianna, Jessica and Christina

This activity is inspired by the food network show "Chopped" with an art theme instead of food.

 This Activity in Action

  1. Divide the students into groups 
  2. Provide scissors glue and and closed paper bag
  3. Explain the objective- use random items in the bag to create an art creation, must use every type of item, must complete within the time frame.
  4. Start the "Chopped" timer
  5. Students complete task
  6. Assess with group the favourites and ones with the most elements of art
